GABA Ripe Pu’er Cake - 100g

$40.00

To produce this tea, only the leaves of ancient tea trees aged over a hundred years were used, growing in the mountainous region of Menghai. This GABA Pu’er is the first of its kind to have undergone independent testing for GABA levels, carried out by a Taiwanese laboratory with state accreditation. Test results concluded that the GABA content in this tea is 182 mg per 100 grams, far exceeding the 150 mg requirement for GABA tea.

We are the first supplier to bring GABA Pu’er to the U.S.! GABA enriched tea is associated with oolong, but we have sourced a singular producer who makes GABA Pu’er, an extremely rare tea which is hard to find even in Yunnan.

In terms of taste, you can discern a note of camphor wood, with a subtle sweet undertone of dates. This tea not only meets high standards but also introduces a unique flavor profile, making it a distinctive and memorable choice for tea enthusiasts.

In the 1980s, tea growers in Japan developed special GABA-enriched/fortified teas, known simply as GABA teas, through an oxygen-free fermentation process. These enriched teas contain 800% as much GABA as a regular cup of oolong tea. Several studies tested GABA oolong teas, in particular, with an Australian study concluding that its consumption led to a significant decrease in the immediate stress score and a significant improvement in heart rate variability, concluding that “even a very small amount of GABA-fortified oolong tea leads to a significant effect on acute stress levels reflected by the improved HRV measures” (Hinton et al, 2019).

This tea has a lower caffeine level, less than half of a cup of coffee, which makes it a great choice for drinking late into the day.
