High-quality 3 year-aged smokeless moxa sticks for indirect moxibustion, in which moxa sticks (also called “cigars”) are held close to the skin at acupressure points at sites of pain/injury. Moxibustion is one of the most popular external remedies in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat a variety of conditions and injuries and is similar to acupuncture, except that it is easy to do at home (and involves no needles).
Traditionally, moxa needs to be done outside or in a very well-ventilated room as lighting the sticks creates a strong aromatic smell. However, we now carry these smokeless moxa sticks, which have little smell and can be used indoors.
Ingredients: 3 year-aged moxibustion charcoal, agar wood, plant essence
Instructions:
- Unwrap moxa stick from plastic wrapping
- Protect the area under where you’ll be using the moxa to protect surfaces from falling ash—we recommend covering the floor with a sheet of aluminum foil or a metal tray
- Light the tip of the stick with a flame and blow it until you see a red glow
- Hold the roll over an acupressure point of your choosing, or directly over the injured area you would like to treat. Do not touch the moxa stick to the skin (you can also find various moxa holders online if you do not want to hold it with your hand)
- Hold it in place until you feel a warm sensation--when it starts getting too hot, move the stick away
- Periodically tap the ash off the stick
- After waiting 5 seconds, repeat the above step. Each session should be 5-10 minutes, with a maximum of 15. Do this daily for best results (every other day is also fine)
- After your moxibustion session, put out the flame in the bowl of sand or soil and wait until there is no more burning in the stick. You can also put it out with water (make sure it is dry before your next use)
Contraindications:
Moxibustion should not be done when drunk, angry, frightened, overworked or over-full. People with skin allergies are not suitable for moxibustion.
Pregnant women: use moxibustion according to your doctor's instructions.
