2023 Autumn Harvest Bingdao Huangjin Raw Pu'er 200g Tea Brick from ancient trees. Highly limited stock. We were lucky enough to have been welcomed by Bingdao’s village chief on our April tea sourcing trip to Yunnan. This tea is made by our friends at No. 28, Old Iceland Village.
Huangjin is a premium variety of raw (sheng) Pu'er known for its golden tea broth (resembling some aged raw Pu'er) thanks to bud-heavy plucking with more golden tips. The result is a tea with a more refined floral aroma and sweet honey-like taste, without the strong astringency typical of young sheng Pu'ers.
This tea represents an exquisite autumn expression of Bingdao's famed terroir, showcasing golden liquor, honeyed sweetness, and ancient tree energy.
Origin and Harvest:
Made from 100% ancient tree material hand-picked in Bingdao's high-altitude tea gardens during the 2023 autumn harvest season. The cooler autumn temperatures contribute to the tea's remarkable sweetness and complex aroma profile.
Leaf Characteristics:
The carefully selected leaves include a generous portion of golden buds mixed with mature leaves, pressed into a 200g brick form. The dry leaves emit a fragrant aroma of wild honey and dried fruits.
Tasting Profile:
The tea produces a luminous golden-yellow liquor that glows in the cup. The initial sip reveals Bingdao's signature floral orchid notes, followed by layers of autumn honey, stewed pear, and a subtle mineral undertone. The mouthfeel is exceptionally smooth with almost no astringency, finishing with a lingering sweetness and cooling sensation in the throat.
Brewing Suggestions:
Use 5-6 grams per 100ml with water at 90-95°C. After a quick rinse, begin with short 5-second steeps, gradually increasing time. The tea yields 12+ infusions, with later steeps developing a delightful osmanthus flower character.
Aging:
While enjoyable now for its fresh, vibrant character, it possesses excellent aging potential. Over 5-10 years, expect the development of deeper honey and dried fruit notes while maintaining its golden hue.
Weight: 200g pressed brick
A rare opportunity to experience premium autumn material from Bingdao's ancient trees, this Huangjin raw Pu'er offers immediate drinking pleasure with long-term aging value. The autumn harvest creates a uniquely balanced tea that bridges the freshness of young sheng with the approachability of slightly older material.
Note: Autumn harvests from Bingdao's ancient trees are particularly scarce due to limited production, making this brick a special addition for collectors and connoisseurs alike.
