2022 Bingdao (Iceland) Big Tree Raw Pu’er Tea Cake – Summer Harvest. Highly limited stock. We were lucky enough to have been welcomed by Bingdao’s village chief on our April tea sourcing trip to Yunnan. This tea is made by our friends at No. 28, Old Iceland Village.
This tea cake offers a bold and vibrant summer energy, showcasing the strength of ancient trees. Sourced from centuries-old big tea trees in Bingdao, it carries the distinctive mineral-rich character and orchid-like sweetness of this famed terroir.
Harvested during the summer of 2022, this tea presents a bolder and more robust profile compared to spring harvests. The leaves yield a rich, sunlit amber infusion with deeper body and stronger huigan. The flavor balances initial briskness with lasting honey-like sweetness and a cooling throat feel, accompanied by strong, invigorating cha qi.
Tasting Notes:
The dry leaf appears darker green with visible silvery buds, pressed into a 100g cake. The aroma suggests ripe orchard fruits, wild herbs, and a touch of sun-warmed hay. On the palate, bold notes of apricot, damp forest, and brown sugar emerge, mellowing into a sweet, mineral finish with a long-lasting huigan and minty coolness.
Summer harvest teas like this offer excellent value, providing Bingdao's signature power at a more accessible price point. The thicker summer leaves contribute to a fuller body and deeper flavors, making this tea suitable for immediate drinking or longer-term aging.
Brewing Suggestions:
For gongfu style, use 6g per 100ml with 95–100°C water. After a quick rinse, start with a 5-second steep, increasing by 5 seconds for each subsequent infusion. For a stronger cup, try extended steeps of 1–2 minutes.
Weight: 100g
Wrapper: Traditional handmade paper with red stamp detailing origin and harvest
A rare summer treasure, this tea makes an excellent addition for Pu’er drinkers who appreciate depth and value. Summer harvest Bingdao teas are less common than spring harvests, making this a unique offering for collectors and enthusiasts.
