Bird's Nest is a nutritious medicinal delicacy from Southeast Asia, and a known favorite of emperors and members of the imperial court in Ancient China. Often considered the most expensive soup in Asian cuisine, Bird’s Nest is revered for its health benefits, including for beauty, pre and post-natal, and during convalescence (recovering from illness). This box includes 6 ready-to-drink jars of Superior Cave Bird's Nest with Reduced Rock Sugar, 25% less than the Regular Rock Sugar version (however, these were designed for an Asian palate, so both are low in sugar).
Bird’s Nest contains epidermal growth factor (EGF), shown in studies to stimulate cell growth and proliferation, demonstrating properties of skin and tissue repair. This is why it is often used to improve complexion, reduce liver spots, and manage skin irritation in both babies and adults. Furthermore, Bird’s Nest has high glycoprotein content, and the proteins found in Bird’s Nest are easily digestible, which is why it is a popular specialty food for those recovering from illness or going through stressful times. It is also widely consumed by moms during and after pregnancy.
This Bird’s Nest is from Singaporean company Eu Yan Sang, a legacy company founded in 1879. EYS Superior Bird's Nest uses only:
Bird's Nest is the nutrient-rich salivary secretion of swiftlets. This gel secretion is an integral component to building the swiftlet nests, which are found in dangerous and highly inaccessible locations like steep cliffs, overhanging crags and deep caves. Not only are Cave Bird’s Nest extremely challenging to harvest, requiring proficient harvesters with specialized equipment, the tedious process of cleaning 10 bird’s nests takes a person 8 hours.
Out of more than 30 species of swiflets, only 2 species of the genus Aerodramus and 1 of the genus Collocalia make edible saliva nest. Aerodramus fuciphaga is the swiftlet that produces the highest quality of edible Bird’s Nest, because its nests are white and clean with minimum feathers, and is found only in Southeast Asia.
To safeguard the highest level of quality & safety, Eu Yan Sang Bird's Nest is produced at HACCP certified production plant and is made from premium selected bird's nest. The bird's nest first undergo a series of stringent cleansing processes to ensure that they are completely free of impurities, taking approximately 8 hours for every 10 nests. They are then hygienically sterilized using a heat treatment process.
The major components of EBN are its glycoproteins, carbohydrates and trace elements. Scientific findings by the researchers in Chinese University of Hong Kong discovered that epidermal growth factor (EGF) is present in EBN. They demonstrated an epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like activity in aqueous extract of edible bird’s nest that stimulated the DNA synthesis in 3T3 fibroblast in a dose dependent manner in vitro(2). EGF is a low-MW polypeptide, which stimulates cell growth and proliferation, demonstrating properties of skin and tissue repair.
Bird’s Nest also contains sialic acid (9%)—several studies show that sialic acid aids in moderating the immune system receptors, preventing entry of bacteria and viruses. It also benefits the brain development of infants(3). Additionally, Bird’s Nest also contains beneficial amino acids, including serine, threonine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, proline, and valine(1,4)
